Honda Maintenance Minder System

Performing regular maintenance according to factory-recommended Maintenance Schedule is the best way to keep your Honda running in optimal condition.

What is the Honda Maintenance Minder System?

The Maintenance Minder System uses the on-board computer to continuously monitor engine operating conditions such as speed, engine temperature, ambient temperature, time, and vehicle use to determine when an oil change and regular maintenance is necessary. Please consult your owner's manual for model-specific maintenance items, recommended intervals and explanations.  For your safety, you should perform all listed inspections and maintenance to keep your vehicle in good condition. In between your service intervals it is important to inspect and maintain proper engine oil level, tire pressure, tire tread and other fluid levels.  If you become aware of any abnormality (noise, smell, insufficient brake fluid, oil residue on the ground, etc.), you should have your vehicle inspected by an experienced Honda mechanic.

How does the Honda Maintenance Minder System work?

The system shows engine oil life as a percentage, which drops over time as the vehicle racks up miles. It starts out at 100% when the maintenance minder is reset, and winds down to 0%, signaling the oil life is over. At 15% your Honda will alert you with a visual warning light to indicate not only when the next minimum service is due, but also what type of service is needed with a series of codes.

How to Read the Maintenance Minder Codes
There are two parts to the Maintenance Minder Codes. There will always be a main-code, and at times there will be a sub-code.

 Main Code Maintenance Items
 A
  • Replace engine oil
 B
  • Replace engine oil & oil filter
  • Inspect front & rear brakes
  • Inspect these items:
        • Tie rod ends, steering gearbox, and     boots
        • Suspension components
        • Driveshaft boots
        • Brake hoses and lines (including     ABS/VSA)
        • All fluid levels and condition of fluids
        • Exhaust system
        • Fuel lines and connections

 Sub Code Maintenance Items
 1
  • Rotate Tires
 2
  • Replace air cleaner element
  • Replace dust and pollen filter
  • Inspect drive belt
 3
  • Replace transmission fluid
 4
  • Replace spark plugs
  • Inspect valve clearance
 5
  • Replace engine coolant
 6
  • Replace rear differential fluid
 7
  • Replace brake fluid

There is always a main item anytime Honda Maintenance Minder indicates your vehicle needs servicing. At times, there will be one or more sub items.

The code "A1," for instance, means you need to replace your vehicle's oil and to rotate your tires, ensure appropriate tire pressure, or have your tires replaced.

Honda Maintenance Minder also lets you know that service is due soon by showing your vehicle's oil life as a percentage. At 15% oil life, the Maintenance Minder light will turn on.
